What is a discount broker?

A discount brokerage allows investors to trade at a low cost.

Historically, only wealthy individuals could afford a broker and access to the stock market. Discount brokers provide people from different financial backgrounds access to the stock market.

Since discount brokers are primarily online-based, individuals seeking more personalized advice should consult a full-service broker. Full-service brokers are compensated for their work through commission, fees, and/or the exchange, so they are more expensive than a discount broker. Unlike discount brokers, full-service brokers provide investment advice and additional financial services to ensure clients feel fully supported.

Our investment management business generates asset-based fees, which are calculated as a percentage of assets under management. We also sell both admissions and sponsorship packages for our investment conferences and advertising on our websites and newsletters.
